FAQ

Do I need to see the doctor at any point?

Only if you are purchasing products that are prescription strength. Although many of the products are not prescription strength, we do carry prescription skincare products to treat more advanced skincare problems. This includes Retin-A and 4% hydroquinone products. An initial skin clearance is required and annual checks thereafter for prescription skincare products. . Latisse is a prescription and requires medical clearance before treatment begins.

Why do I need a skin clearance screening?

Prescription products can alter the cellular structure of skin cells making it very difficult to properly diagnose skin cancer. A pre-treatment screening allows the doctor to determine if there are any suspicious areas that may need a biopsy prior to treatment. Contrary to what many people believe, skin cancer can present as something very non-threatening such as a flaky patch of skin that comes and goes and does not always present as a dark, irregular patch. Screening is for your own good.

I have a dermatologist that I see on a regular basis, why do I need another skincare screening?

The liability of prescribing without personally examining the patient is much too high. We have personally seen cases where patients were routinely screened by their dermatologists only to find biopsy proven skin cancer at our screening exams. We have even seen melanoma on patients that were regularly checked by their own physician.

What happens if the doctor identifies a suspicious lesion during my skincare clearance?

If the doctor finds an area that is suspicious, he may recommend a biopsy of the lesion. A small sample is taken and sent to pathology to determine the nature of the lesion. This is usually covered through insurance. We participate in a limited number of insurance plans so be sure to inquire if we participate with your insurance. If you prefer, you can get the biopsy through your dermatologist.  We would then require a copy of the results to follow-through with prescription skincare orders.

The skincare lines we carry are a combination of physician-grade (only available through physicians) and prescription-grade (has prescription products that require a physician to dispense).
