At Stanislaw Facial Plastic Surgery Center, we are proud to offer a minimally invasive technique that restores your youthful, glowing skin. Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), also known as microneedling therapy, is an FDA-approved treatment that utilizes your body’s natural healing process to rejuvenate your new skin tissue.

How does CIT work?
CIT, or microneedling works by penetrating the skin’s surface, resulting in a tiny wound that is not seen by the naked eye. Although this wound is minuscule, it stimulates the body’s natural healing process and causes fibroblasts to produce more collagen in new tissue. The fibroblasts then turn into myofibroblasts (or muscle fibroblasts) and these myofibroblasts pull on the collagen and tighten the skin. These two components are necessary for reversing aging skin and redness. Additionally, there is no removal or significant damage to existing collagen production, so the new collagen is combined with the existing levels. Over time, patients see an improvement in the skin texture and its general health.
What can CIT treat?
CIT can have many benefits, especially for patients who have stretch marks, atrophic acne scars, redness, wrinkles, inflammation, or hyperpigmentation.
Who is a Good Candidate for CIT?
Most of our patients looking to improve the look of their skin are good candidates for collagen induction therapy. We also recommend that patients be in good overall health, have realistic expectations of treatment, and be struggling with lines and wrinkles, acne scars, redness, and dark spots. When you come in for your consultation, we’ll help you determine if CIT is right for you.
What to Expect from CIT
The CIT treatment process is relatively straightforward. To start, your provider will cleanse the skin. Your provider may also apply a topical anesthetic for your comfort.
From there, they will move the microneedling device across the treatment area. You may feel slight pressure, but you shouldn’t feel any pain.
How long your treatment lasts will depend on the size of the treatment area and your unique goals.
Recovery and Aftercare
You can expect little to no recovery time following CIT. You may notice some redness and swelling, but those side effects dissipate within a day or two. It may feel like a mild sunburn.
As you recover, you’ll want to stay hydrated, use gentle skincare products, avoid direct sun exposure, and avoid strenuous activities for up to a week. It can take several weeks for the collagen to build up and for the most noticeable results.
How many treatments do I need?
Generally, Dr. Stanislaw will recommend a course of six procedures with three to five-week intervals for optimal results. However, treatment is performed based on your individual goals and skin type. After your sessions, the maintenance of a healthy, beautiful appearance may require two to four treatments every year.
How long until I see results from CIT treatment?
This ultimately depends on the extent of your treatment and your body’s healing capabilities. The skin remodeling can continue for months after each treatment, but most people can notice visible results within a week. Generally, it takes up to three months for full results to develop.
What areas can be treated with CIT?
Almost all body parts can receive a CIT treatment, including the face, around the eyes, neck, body, arms, and legs. However, a consultation with Dr. Stanislaw is necessary to determine the best areas of treatment for your desired results. He may also recommend other cosmetic procedures that may produce similar results.
