Upper Blepharoplasty
in Connecticut

Upper blepharoplasty, also called an eyelid lift or eyelid surgery, helps rejuvenate your appearance by reducing excessive, sagging skin and excess fat from the upper lids. This aesthetic plastic surgery can restore a brighter, more alert, and youthful appearance.

It is important to keep in mind that blepharoplasty does not eliminate crow’s feet, dark circles, a sagging brow, or wrinkles around the eyes. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Stanislaw may also perform other cosmetic or surgical procedures along with it, like lower eyelid surgery, a filler injection, or a forehead lift (or brow lift.

Am I a Good Candidate for Upper Eyelid Surgery?

Most patients opting for upper eyelid surgery are 35 years or older. However, if droopy or baggy eyelids run in your family, you may have opted for surgery earlier. You must be in general good health and have realistic expectations for surgery. Patients bothered by lower eye bags can also combine upper and lower eyelid surgery (lower blepharoplasty).

Eyelid surgery can help improve your appearance and boost your self-confidence. The better your eyes look, the younger the rest of your face looks. Eye rejuvenation is the most cost-effective way to make the entire face look younger. When someone looks at you, they automatically make eye contact. Anything that distracts them from seeing your eyes, such as sagging upper eyelid skin, droopy eyelids, heavy eyebrows, bags under your eyes, or deep hollows under your eyes, ages you.

Are the Results of My Surgery Permanent?

The results of your upper eyelid blepharoplasty will last for 5 to 7 years. After this time, the natural aging process will gradually cause wrinkles and loose skin to develop again. These signs of aging along the delicate eyelid skin can be addressed with an additional procedure or non-surgical treatments such as dermal fillers.

How is the Upper Eyelid Surgery Performed?

Dr. Stanislaw will perform eyelid surgery under local anesthesia. The surgical procedure takes about one hour. The surgeon measures the amount of excess skin that is present with your eyes closed. Local anesthetic is then injected, and the excess eyelid skin is removed through incisions made in the natural upper eyelid crease. Very small stitches are used to close the incision, and these are usually removed in 5 to 6 days.

What is the Recovery Like from an Upper Eyelid Surgery?

The stitches on your eyelids will remain for about 5 to 6 days, and it is common to have some swelling and, at times, some bruising. We recommend that patients use pain medication and cold compresses as needed to reduce swelling. Strenuous activity should be avoided for at least two weeks, but most patients can resume light activities after a few days. Your eyes will look like their normal self within one to two weeks after your upper blepharoplasty surgery.
