Time-Lines to Plan for Your Facial Procedure

in Avon, Connecticut

There are many occasions and special events where you would like to look your very best; perhaps a wedding, reunion or other event. All too often, by the time someone thinks about it, the window of opportunity for a cosmetic enhancement has closed, leading to disappointment.

Every procedure, regardless if surgical or non-surgical, requires a consultation. This enables you to discuss your concerns with the doctor and to review treatment options. It can take up to several weeks to get a consultation. It can then take 2-10 weeks to coordinate procedures depending on surgical vs non-surgical. This is important to keep this in mind when considering your time frame. It’s especially important when planning around big events such as weddings or reunions. Planning is key – don’t wait until the last minute!

Botox/Dysport

Wrinkles can cause you to appear aged, stressed, and angry, even if you are feeling great. Botox and its competitor Dysport is made up of botulinum toxin, which temporarily blocks muscular nerve signals and weakens muscles so they cannot contract. This helps to smooth unwanted crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, and frown-lines with no downtime. Botox/Dysport is a quick and easy treatment, with Dysport taking effect within 48-hours and Botox within 5-7 days. These results commonly last about three to six months.

Fillers

Dermal fillers can help to restore volume in hollow areas of the face, rejuvenate the eyes and cheeks, plump the lips, and soften facial creases and wrinkles. At Stanislaw Facial Plastic Surgery Center, we offer a variety of dermal fillers, including Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Ultra Plus, Sculptra, Restylane, Restylane Lyft, and Restylane Silk. Dermal fillers work instantly, though the duration of fillers depends on which product is used and where it is injected. As a general rule, the closer to the mouth, the quicker it breaks down. Overall, fillers can help to give you a younger, more rejuvenated appearance. Recovery time varies from 1-2 weeks for most injections, however, we recommend 6-8 weeks for eye rejuvenation just to be safe. Although bruising is significantly reduced with our new injection techniques, it does not guarantee you will not bruise, so plan ahead!

Blepharoplasty

Upper Blepharoplasty, or upper eyelid surgery, can be beneficial to those with loose or sagging skin of the upper eyelids. This sagging skin can make you appear aged and tired. An upper blepharoplasty procedure can remove this excess skin to give your eyes a more open, rejuvenated appearance. Allow at least one to two months for recovery for this procedure.

Lower Blepharoplasty, or lower eyelid surgery, can be done on the lower lids to correct bags under the eyes. This procedure will help you to appear as vibrant as you feel. Recovery lasts around one to two weeks. In some cases, fillers can be used instead of surgery, however, a consultation would be needed to determine if you are a candidate for this as an alternative treatment. It is not uncommon for patients undergoing lower eyelid surgery to require fillers to the lower eyelid one month post-operatively to address volume loss and to achieve the best aesthetic outcome. In this case, we recommend an additional 2-month to your recovery.

Liquid Facelift

Some patients can get by with a non-surgical facelift, also known as a liquid facelift. This could be a combination of Botox/Dysport, dermal fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane products, Sculptra, a bio-stimulator, or any combination of these products. In some cases, a liquid facelift can be achieved with minimal down time over a relatively short period of time. If a significant amount of volume loss exists, it may be more cost-effective to start with a series of Sculptra injections. Sculptra is a bio-stimulator that encourages the production of collagen. Sculptra injections are spaced 8 weeks apart and are done in a series (a minimum of 3 and up to 5) sessions. Once a good foundation is established with the Sculptra treatments, dermal fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane are used to fine tune the liquid facelift. A liquid facelift can take as little as several weeks and up to a year to finish depending on the treatment plan. It is important to note that a liquid facelift cannot address loose skin of the neck; surgery is the only effective treatment for the neck.

Facelift

If you are experiencing sagging of the lower face and neck, a facelift may be the answer. This procedure can be done in-office or at an outpatient surgical center; both with the same outcomes. Bruising and swelling will occur during the healing process, often lasting about two weeks. Most patients are able to return to work after two weeks. We recommend allowing 2-3 months following a facelift for optimum recovery, or 4-6 month if you’re also adding volume through fillers. When planning a facelift, ideally you should allow a year, but at least 6-months to allow adequate time for preparing for and recovering from the procedure.
