What to Know Before Waxing this Summer

in Avon, Connecticut

Getting ready for summer is always great, whether it’s buying your new bathing suit, soaking up the sun (with quality SPF protection, of course), or achieving smooth, touchable skin with waxing. However, getting an infection from a poorly performed waxing session? Not so much fun.

At Stanislaw Facial Plastic Surgery & Spa in Avon, Connecticut, we offer premier waxing services that will leave you with lasting smooth skin, and recommendations to care for your skin after waxing. Our licensed esthetician, Julie Brookman, has extensive training to provide everything you need to know before your waxing appointment. In this blog, we will discuss a few things you should be aware of waxing and how to avoid any imperfection this summer.

Research the Spa and Esthetician

As with any cosmetic improvement treatment or procedure, you should always do research on the facility and the estheticians. As stated above, our esthetician, Julie Brookman, has had years of aesthetic training and is licensed through the Massachusetts State Board of Esthetics. Julie’s advanced skills have proven to offer only quality and proper care to all patients!

Keep Your Regular Scheduled Appointments

To maintain your silky, smooth legs, it’s important to keep regularly scheduled appointments with the esthetician, which generally occurs once every 3 to 4 weeks.

Avoid Exfoliation Before Waxing

Some products, containing exfoliating ingredients or retinol, may make your skin more sensitive than usual before waxing. It is recommended you discontinue use of these products a week before waxing to avoid an adverse reaction or some burning.

Avoid Tanning Booths or Sunbathing

For at least 2 days after waxing, you should avoid using tanning booths or soaking up the sun’s rays for excessive time. These factors may irritate your skin and cause inflammation. If you are planning on being in the sun, be sure to apply a quality SPF sunscreen every two hours to protect your sensitive skin!

Additionally, if you are sunburned, tanned, or recently underwent a laser treatment, you are not a good candidate for a waxing.

Follow Before & After Care Instructions Carefully

With the necessary precautions instructed by a licensed esthetician, patients can choose to wax all year-round. However, it’s very important to follow the instructions to avoid unnecessary complications.

Ask for a Wax Especially for You

At Stanislaw Facial Plastic Surgery & Spa, we offer extra care to follow antiseptic protocols and screen patients for potential adverse reactions to our waxing services. If you have sensitive skin, there is a unique wax selection made especially for you!
