About Glastonbury, CT

Glastonbury is a town in the Hartford County of Connecticut and was formally founded in 1693 when the first settlers began arriving in 1636. The oldest continuously-operating ferry in the country still runs between South Glastonbury and Rocky Hill like it did as far back as 1655. During the American Revolutionary war, several homes were used to hold classes from Yale University. Glastonbury freed its slaves in the 1780s, 60 years before slavery was formally abolished in Connecticut. The town begins on the banks of the Connecticut River and extends up into foothills. Parts of Glastonbury reside in an area called ‘Kongscut Mountain’, locally called ‘Rattlesnake Mountain’ due to the small population of timber rattlesnakes. The town also boasts a small private lake named Diamond Lake that is surrounded by growing subdivisions of large homes.
